HOW IT WORKS

(EXTENDED DIRECTOR’S CUT)

1. The first and most important thing is for me to understand your vision for the song. A successful collaboration always relies on this!

When you first reach out, we talk about your project, what kind of sound you’re going for, what reference/s you have for the track and/or the drums in the track and what you’re generally going for. This is generally done through chat (FB messenger/WhatsApp/Email/etc) or a call (FB call/Zoom/Skype/etc).

2. We make sure I have all files necessary for me to work on the project. A stereo mix without drums works, but sometimes sending some 4-5 stems my way gives me more flexibility and allows me to get more creative and engaged in the project.

3. Once payment’s been cleared, and I’ve listened to the track and we’ve decided on the best approach (live drums? layered overdubs? programming? etc), I set up for the project and send a rough idea of what I have in mind just to make sure we’re on the same page in terms of parts, sound, and overall aesthetic. We then tweak on this if necessary.

4. Once we’re loving what we have so far and are confident on this direction, I sit down and track all final takes, overdubs, and everything we need. Then I go in the DAW and create 2 killer comps out of those takes, and do some minor mixing and editing (this varies according to the needs of the project), and put it all together.

5. I’ll send a link with organized and clearly labelled folders with:

  • 2 great-sounding multi-tracked, comped AND edited passes

  • A plethora of percussion overdubs and ear candy (whatever the project needs!)

  • Multi-tracked one shots of the kit used

  • Mp3 stereo bounces of the drum takes, which make for easier comping and take selection on your end

All of this with all sounds and parts created so as to fit your unique aesthetic, in your preferred file format and bit-depth/sampling rate.

6. If there’s any final changes you need, you can let me know within 48 hours of my files being sent and we re-do whatever’s necessary until you’re absolutely in love with the drums & percussion files I’ve sent. I’m happy to do whatever changes necessary for us to be super happy with the result.

7. Once you’re sure the drums sound great and elevate your song, I’m also happy to make recommendations if you need help finding a mixing or mastering engineer that’s a great fit for this project. Let’s stay in touch, and let me know when you release it so I can check it out and share it!

8. After the track becomes a smash hit, breaking all charts and turning us into worldwide rock stars, we prepare to start this beautiful process again for our next collaboration..

If you still have any questions after reading this, definitely reach out and tell me what else you want to know!
